Today, we Americans celebrate the Fourth of July and the words penned by Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence that on July 2, 1776, we were free from tyranny.
The preamble of the Declaration penetrates the heart of most Americans with bursts of honor and gladness. Setting off emotional fireworks when read.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident; that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; that to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”
In America, these God-given rights (of Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness) — there is a lot to unpack there—are protected by a government of our choosing.
People still cross oceans (like the early colonists) and risk their lives (and many die) daily for an opportunity to experience these protected rights. We have something really special here, and we should never take it for granted or forget how blessed we are.
America is indeed the Home of the Free because of the Brave, and the Wise. 🇺🇸❤️🤎🇺🇸
On a day that celebrates our rights and freedom of government, may we find a renewed passion for this land, your land, my land, “made for you and me,” and the intent for its establishment. In this land, God’s human creations can truly live, without bondage, and pursue their dreams. And we get to do so with other God-fearing citizens who believe in those same rights.
May God continue to bless America and her citizens.
