Family Caregivers, this article (link below) stopped me cold.
Right now, we pour everything into caring for our loved ones, but what happens when it’s our turn for care?
My grandfather used to say, “Don’t let me be a burden to my girls.”’ Maybe you’ve heard or said something similar.
What’s your hope or prayer? Do you feel it’s okay to pray that we don’t become a burden to our families?
The “Dignity of Dependence” article posits that advances in medicine mean we’re living longer, however that increased life span often means more years of physical and cognitive vulnerability. As caregivers, it’s hard to even think about the end while we’re so needed today by our loved ones.
My grandfather prayed and got his wish. He passed quickly from a massive heart attack. No lengthy burden only broken hearts.
I’ll admit, the short article left me with more questions than answers. Furthermore we are reminded that dependence is part of life — from birth to grave — and faith calls us to bear burdens with grace and peace, on both ends.
What are your thoughts on this topic? 💛 I’d like to hear (no judgment — only honest hearts.
