Holidays can look different for caregivers.
As family caregivers, holidays can bring mixed emotions. While many families celebrate with cookouts and fireworks, others quietly navigate mobility challenges, sensory sensitivities, chronic pain, medical neccessities, or simply the isolation that caregiving can bring.
My family, like many others, will use this God-given technology (TV, Screens, Movies) to watch the various Independence Day events. Since my viewpoint has changed from a childlike focus on the Fourth of July food and fireworks to a more mature appreciation of the sacrifices that secured our freedoms, I cannot say that I feel like I will be missing much.
While it would be nice to travel to those historical places or casually gather with friends and family, I will be content with my season in life. I will enjoy the moments and America’s 250th birthday in my own way, taking time to pray for our country and its leaders.
This is what my caregiver group shared with each other last night. We further acknowledged the excitement surrounding FIFA/international soccer players which prompted so many of us to reflect on the many blessings we often take for granted in America.
Who can deny God’s providential hand in the establishment of a new world.
Reflecting on God’s faithfulness throughout our nation’s history, the lessons learned, and the freedoms we enjoy—not only as Americans, but as followers of Christ was worth every minute of our hour together.
Amazingly, we are able to cover:
- 🎆 Holiday Memories
- 🎳 Group Updates – a fun outing planned!!!
- 😃 Praise Reports – keep growing!!!
- 🙏 Prayer Requests
You’re Invited
Whether you’re caring for a parent, spouse, child, sibling, grandchild, or friend, we’d love to meet you.
Our next caregiver gathering will be a bowling outing in Ocala. (You don’t have to know how to bowl to join us.)
If you’ve been feeling isolated, and need a little more connection, consider this your invitation. Or, if you need help starting your own care club, check out my book, Beating the Isolation Trap, and be blessed in knowing…
💙 You don’t have to walk this journey alone. & You don’t have to lose yourself while you care for someone else.
Really,
Leah
