Sometimes Life Happens Before You Get a Chance to Celebrate

A few weeks ago, the Ocala Gazette shared news of my book, Beating the Isolation Trap: An Authentic Caregiver’s Guide to Reconnecting, Recharging and Thriving.

I meant to share it.

Then, well…life happened. 😊

Perhaps that’s fitting. Caregivers know better than most how quickly life can rearrange the calendar. Am I right, caregivers?

Article about the Building Community for Caregivers

So, as the Ocala Gazette celebrates six years of telling the stories of our community, I wanted to finally say thank you again.🎉

And, truthfully, this isn’t the first time they’ve made room for our caregiver community.

Sometimes, People Simply Need Help Finding Us 🔎

In 2024, the Gazette helped tell the story of local family caregivers and the small caregiver community we were building—giving space not just to my voice, but to the experiences of families caring for the people they love.

Ocala Gazette, November 2024: “Appreciating those who care for loved ones,” highlighting local family caregivers and the growing caregiver community in Ocala.

At the time, I shared my hope that we could inspire other caregiver groups and find ways to connect with even more caregivers.

Last fall, the Gazette’s Community News section again helped spread the word—this time about the Ocala Family Caregivers Celebration.

And now, they’ve shared news of Beating the Isolation Trap.

Looking back, I can see a story unfolding that I didn’t fully recognize while I was living it.

First, there was a hope to reach more caregivers.

Then, there was a growing community coming together to recognize and celebrate them.

And now, there is a book offering caregivers a step-by-step framework to start or strengthen peer groups of their own.

Sometimes, people simply need help finding us.

Finding the people. Learning from others they can trust.

Finding the resources. Learning from other’s experiences. Again, form those they trust.

Finding the information.

Finding a place where they don’t have to figure out everything alone.

Burnout Often Grows in Silence 🌱

The recent article about my book included a line from me: “Burnout often grows in silence, and loneliness can become part of daily life before it is even recognized.”

That’s exactly why I wrote the book.

And it’s why I’m still pressing the need.

Caregivers need information—but we also need people.

We need places to connect. We need practical resources. We need opportunities to laugh, lunch, sip tea, go bowling (yaaa!!!) and simply remember who we are beyond the responsibilities of caregiving. ☕🎳 Without regret.

We need reminders that there can still be friendships, joy, and hope in the middle of caregiving.

Thank You for Making Room for Caregiver Stories 📰

Local journalism matters.

Sometimes a newspaper story helps someone discover a resource they didn’t know existed.

Sometimes it introduces neighbors who need one another.

Sometimes it gives visibility to people quietly doing hard things every day.

And sometimes, years later, you look back at the stories and realize they were documenting the growth of a MOVEMENT. 💛

Congratulations to the Ocala Gazette on six years of telling local stories.

Thank you for continuing to make room for caregiver stories—and for helping our neighbors find one another.

I’m grateful our caregiver stories have been among them.
