Laughter is good medicine

A joyful heart is good medicine, But a broken spirit dries up the bones. Proverb 17:22. NASB

This week, the shining lights, caregiver small-group, we did a few things:

  • We prayed
  • We lunched
  • We chit-chatted
  • We shared life experiences since the last time we met, and
  • We had our devotion, entitled “Look for laughter!”

Oh, how good God is! He always knows our needs and He still supplies, and we needed to laugh. Hard. One of the ladies started us off with a story that had us all nearly in tears.

Then I shared my go-to-thing-to-do for a good laugh: watching one of my favorite comedy sitcoms. (I advise everyone to keep a few in your Youtube watchlist for those times when you feel a little blah!)

“Which ones,” one of the members asked me. “The King of Queens,” I replied. “I don’t care which episode, it always makes me laugh until my side hurts.”

The others added that they enjoyed shows like 3rd Rock from the Sun and Blackish, too. So what’s your go-to comedy show?

Whatever it is – including a Happy Pill (see below) – feel free to share it here and more importantly, enjoy what makes you laugh, heartily.

My prayer for you is that you will look for laughter today and all throughout your weekend. May you find and enjoy it to the tipping point. And may it rub off on everyone around you. 😂

  1. I strongly believe in the healing power of healthy laughter not insight laughter that’s hurtful and abusive to someone else. Thanks for sharing. I ordered The Happy Pill for one of my grands. I hope she gets a kick out of the giggles as much as I did. We’ll see. 😄

  2. Wonderful! Please tell me how she enjoys it.

And I agree with you about healthy humor. If everyone is not “willing” to laugh then it’s probably not funny. Willing, because some people take things too seriously. 🙂

  3. Hi Leah,

I also love me some King of Queens!
I would say my go-to comedy show is Martin.
It makes me laugh so hard you would think I never saw it before. 😂
And thanks for the advice to keep some in my Youtube watchlist.
    Blessing,
    Vernon

    1. Hi Vernon,

You are absolutely right! Martin is a classic go-to-comedy show. Duh, on my part. So thanks for sharing.

Peace & blessings to you and yours

  4. Only seen King of Queens a few times, but it was always naturally, refreshingly funny. So many shows depend on situations for humor but the characters are what make it worth watching. Only seen The Neighborhood two or three times but liked it for the same reason–people who don’t mind laughing at themselves. Definitely need more comedy and less drama, enough of that in real life!

    1. I agree, wholeheartedly. Thank you for sharing 💕
