SHORT AND SWEET #13: AFFIRMATIONS FOR SUCCESS

As I continue to meditate on making the right choices, and bringing blessings into my life, I consider Reverand John Wesley, an English theologian, evangelist, cleric, and leader in the Methodist movement, who is credited with some pretty phenomenal words:

Do all the good you can,

by all the means you can,

in all the ways you can,

in all the places you can,

at all the times you can,

to all the people you can,

as long as you ever can.”

And just so we are clear, “to do good” is the Greek word, “agathopoieo” in the Strong’s Concordance. The verb’s expanded definition means “to do what is inherently good, i.e., is inspired and powered by God (Mark 3:4, Luke 6:9,35, 1 Peter 2:14, 20, 36, 17; 3 John 11).

“Inspired and powered by God” sticks out to me. I would posit that in order to do good, we need to find out what God says is good and that only comes through intimacy with God. This means I cannot wake up just in time to shower and get to work and think I am going to do good. No, I have to be like Jesus and intentionally wake up a few minutes earlier to have that quiet time in the presence of God. I have to take time, the time we are given as a present from God, to pray, read the Scriptures, and ask the Holy Spirit for understanding. We need to get inspired and empowered by God.

All of that takes time and should not be done on the fly IF we want to do good. So that’s the first thing we should practice. Getting up early to receive the supernatural power we need to do good. Then, we can apply the words of the Reverand to memory.

Howabout we turn Wesley’s words into an affirmation?

Today, I will do all the good I can, by all the means I can, in all the ways I can, in all the places I can, at all the times I can, to all the people, I can, as long as I ever can.
