We could all be happier if we made better decisions. Well, what if we followed the proverb below?
“Don’t speak to a fool, for he will despise the insight of your words.”
Proverbs 23:9 CSB
Easier said than done, right?
This one is hard sometimes. Especially when you believe so deeply about the subject matter and you care so much for the person you are trying to reach.
We have all been there. Someone we know is about to make a foolish choice. We know this from a past experience or from common sense. Either way we are trying to make one more point because we know (only we do not know) the clarity we provide will convince the other person to reconsider.
But they never do. This person constantly resists your pleas. They get mad and call you names. They may want to fight, because fools only listen to themselves, and their preferred choice of education is from the School of Hard Knocks.
Stop! Fighting with a fool (even if it is only verbally) will leave you exhausted. So leave a fool to God and save your breath.
Less strife = MORE HAPPY!
And on those rare, or not so rare occasions, when WE ARE THE FOOLS, may we learn to listen to someone who might have something worthwhile to say.
