Write the Vision Anew in 2022

“And the Lord answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.”

–Habakkuk 2:2 (ESV)

Repost with revisions from ReallyLeah’s UnHotMess Series 1. 2021. Bringing in the Best and Pushing out the Mess

Obviously, there is STILL a whole lot of crazy, messiness STILL going on in the world. I think it is foolish to think that this will not always be the case. It seems that for every step forward, there are two giant steps backward, more division and greater delusions.

But if you and I are wise, we already know how this story ends.  We may not know the specifics, but we know.

And, if you don’t know or we have forgotten. Guess what? There is still no need to worry. We can take a lesson from Habakkuk.

The Same Ole Story

Way back in the 600s Before Christ (BC), Habakkuk the prophet felt a lot like we do now. There was not enough justice or righteousness in the land and Habakkuk felt clueless.  In short and to paraphrase an already short book of the Bible, Habakkuk was fed up with the way people were thinking and acting.

Furthermore, he was a tad bitter towards God for allowing the people to act so foolishly. Habakkuk knew the big boys and girls were oppressing the little people to get rich. He knew the leaders in the land were living it up, drinking, and eating expensive foods while the common folks were struggling to survive. Sound familiar?

He also complained of the country’s idolatry to themselves and their government. The people in Habakkuk’s day were making everything a god but God. So he cried out (lamented) to God for an answer.

“Why God?… I know You see this mess. So what are You going to do about it, and why haven’t You done it already?” (more of Leah’s paraphrasing)

Say What!!!

Some of you would be afraid to ask God these questions but Habakkuk, was not because he had a secure relationship with God. People, who don’t have this kind of intimacy would rather murmur these thoughts to themselves or to someone who cannot change a tire let alone the world.

But Habakkuk knew God. He felt comfortable crying out to his Savior–the ultimate world changer.

And after Habakkuk expressed his observations and complaints, God responded.

Wait for it

God begins telling Habakkuk to write down what He (God) is about to show him. God instructs Habakkuk to make it plain and uncomplicated so anyone who reads the words will know how to live (by faith).

When you can, please read or re-read the three-chapter book to get all the details. But I will tell you this, in the end, God assures the prophet that His righteous judgment will prevail, evil will be destroyed, and as a result, Habakkuk praises God!

Write it Down

God wants to show us visions as well. We need only confess our own sins first, ask for answers, then wait, and write it down.

So what has God shown you about your life? Have you written it down yet?  Let’s make this the best year yet by making the vision clear. “For the vision awaits an appointed time; it testifies of the end and does not lie. Though it lingers, wait for it, since it will surely come and will not delay.” Habakkuk 2:3 (BSB)
