THE FUNNIES 9.0. HAPPY JUNETEENTH!
While hurt people are hurting people I believe in healing people and keeping them well. And what brings healing like laughter?
In the famed words of Charles Dickens’ Ebenezer Scrooge, “It is a fair, even-handed, noble adjustment of things, that while there is infection in disease and sorrow, there is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humor.”
I hope to spread some here in a new installment (est. 4.16.20) of things that crack me up called, THE FUNNIES. Here is a spoonful of sugar for whatever ails you.
Did you know today, June 19th, is Juneteenth Day?
Juneteenth Day – A most happy day (aka Jubilee Day) for black Texans on this date in 1865 for they finally received the good news that they had been emancipated from slavery by President Abraham Lincoln. Funny enough, most of the United States is just now learning about the momentous day and it’s – what? – 2020. This reminds me of Florence Johnston on The Jeffersons, when she tells the nouveau rich George and Louise Jefferson while interviewing for a domestic position inside their penthouse apartment,
“How come we overcame and nobody told me?”
Here’s to some things being better late than never.
Today is also National Garfield the Cat Day – once a popular cartoon about a snarky cat and his beloved owner and friends.
Over the weekend you can also celebrate –
American Eagle Day (Saturday, June 20) and National Vanilla Milkshake and National Ice Cream Soda Day – perfect for summer weekends!
National Selfie Day (Sunday, June 21) – like we need a day for this. SMH. Kids may also enjoy knowing that Sunday is World Giraffe Day and the kid in all of us can celebrate Go Skateboarding Day even if all we can do is watch. And most importantly, it is Father’s Day.
Lastly, kids really do the darndest things…
This Little girl makes me happy …Check out https://youtu.be/d-BA7oJ35j0 to see her with her dad singing OldSkool hits, in her own tune, her own words, and on her own beat. #thekabsfamily. She even has the moves. I know because I learned the steps to “If it isn’t love,” when I was a kid too. What’s the most fun you’ve had with your dad?
Last week, one of my mentors and wise, beautiful sorority sister responded to the “funny” below. She shared with me on Facebook, “I hate late – from others or myself. Late folk need attention, visibility, center stage. Time is money. Don’t waste my time by being late, ok?😃😃” I think the remarks are sage advice, well worth mentioning here. Thank you, again, Mrs. Vivian Lee. 🌹
True! I’ve been late and I’ve had to wait. Late is better.
What do you think?
UNTIL NEXT TIME…
🌸 STAY HAPPY! BE BLESSED 🦋
